Carlos Gabriel Ruiz
Carlos Gabriel Ruiz is a cartoonist, writer, illustrator, and creative director based in St. Louis, Missouri. He is the creator of Pretentious Record Store Guy, an indie comic funded successfully through Kickstarter; Development Hell, published by DC Comics online through their Zuda imprint; and Parade of Freaks, an all-ages comic. His latest comics are ROANOKE, about Virginia Dare and the lost colony of Roanoke; THE IDEAL, a superhero comic; and SHOTS + LOSSES, a short story anthology series. Currently he is working on WEATHERMEN, a sci-fi thriller; KID HISTORY, an all-ages time travel adventure; and THE BARON AGE, a period crime story with collaborators Jim Mosley, Brandon Daniels and Bryan Ward.
In 2008, he created the imprint Brain Cloud Comics to self-publish his own work. He also started a sketch meet-up group which would later become the collective Ink and Drink Comics. In 2010, the group published their first anthology, and have been putting out genre anthologies every six months without fail. So far, they have published 15 books and 5 mini-comics.
